“In all my work I’m trying to find those moments of humanity that make us connect emotionally with the story”
After graduating from film school in Stockholm Tomas spend the next couple of years learning his trade from national and international directors as 1st AD on their commercial productions. He got his first break in 2001 with the chance to direct a music video and before the year was out, Tomas had directed five commercials and a further four music videos, two of which earned him the first of many industry awards.
One of his favourite first commercial projects featured Richard Gere for a Scandinavian client and resulted in a surreal call a couple of months later requesting that they fly next day to Los Angeles. Jonsgarden had left such a strong impression, Richard Gere had added “all commercials to be directed by Tomas Jonsgarden” to his technical rider.
Tomas’s beautiful style of cinematic storytelling always has a human story at its core. He has a way of making everyday moments epic by capturing the subtle instants of humanity which have the power to make us laugh, cry or blush when we recognise ourselves in them.
